I will the blocks were just fully magnetic without having to match / line up the shapes on the connectors. My 4 year olds played with them for a few minutes. We love that it is multifunctional and the kids can have open ended play with it! They fact that it all magnets together is the best part. She is curious about everything these days and these blocks are the perfect size for her hands. These blocks are heavy duty and can withstand the bashing and throwing our daughter puts them through. They are also extremely easy to clean and sanitize (since she currently puts everything in her mouth). We really like that this set has the letters on the blocks; although she is a ways away from reading, we like to introduce letters and numbers to her and this is a subtle way to do so. We like that these blocks can be configured in multiple ways. The blocks magnetically snap to stay together while building. This set has pieces to attach to the blocks that help toddlers work on fine motor skills. We have the other magnets blocks (the dive &amp; soar) and he uses those blocks to make the bridge higher.
