I was a little worried about it, but it worked right out of the box. My 8 year old loves it as it satisfies many interests. She told her teacher about it, and her teacher encouraged her to bring it to class for show and tell. There were a lot of ooohs and ahhhs by her classmates when the lights turned out and the globe lit up! The only issue was that it seemed as though during the shipping, the light bulb became loose - so it wouldn't light up and it appeared as thought it was defective when we first received it. Fortunately, it came with printed instructions on how to change the light bulb, so we decided to see if that was the reason for it not turning on, before going through the effort of returning to a store.
