It has a remote that changes colors and the way the lights flash. It can be plugged in or use batteries . They wanted to take turns with the remote and see the different light settings. They had so much fun with it after we opened it and turned it on. I ended up just putting them in and giving up a bit and to my surprise a couple hours later they were swimming around. I will say it&rsquo;s better to use plugged into an outlet than with batteries as it does drain them pretty quickly. The colors were great and it&rsquo;s nice that it has the option to control with a remote. We followed the directions and have had no issues with the jellyfish not floating the right way. It did take a couple days after set up for them to settle.
