From there you will have to download the books onto the pen before use which requires computer access and the provided usb cord. I think the process is a little outdated and should be made so that the books can be uploaded using Bluetooth capabilities or WiFi. Those who don&rsquo;t have a computer at home or aren&rsquo;t computer savvy may not find this system easy to set up. As for actual use of the pen and books, my daughter absolutely loves the books. She spent an hour reading when we set it up the first night. She likes that she can listen to the pen without the books as well. In fact she uses the pen at night if she is having trouble sleeping. We only had regular storybooks, but I really love this version. It has the same options or hear a word, sound or letter name, or to have the text read to you. At first glance, I wasn't a fan of the yellow highlights, thinking they may be distracting. But on using it, I like it... for the most part. In the word &quot;leap&quot;, the &quot;ea&quot; will first say &quot;ee&quot;. If you touch it again, it says, &quot;In the word leap, the letters e, a say the sound ee.&quot; I really like that. What I don't like is when it fully highlights words. Example: the whole word is highlighted for &quot;do&quot;. If you click the d, it just says &quot;do&quot;. If you click again, it still says &quot;do&quot;. I feel like it should use the same concept as leap. In this word, the d still says a d sound. It's the o that says oo. It doesn't give any explanation at all though. Same with words like &quot;What&quot; and &quot;puts&quot;. I don't know how many kids will click twice, but I wish it was more consistent. I do enjoy the activities in the back of these books! They offer a bit of what I love about the LeapStart in that regard. It takes the sounds, and gives two levels of game play to put the sounds in to action or engage a more reluctant reader. Overall, the LeapReader is a great tool. It is a nice added tool to help reinforce what she learns while working with us or at school. Sometimes she just needs to check that she got the word right and this does that very well as she can read it and then specify the word she wants to hear. The read to me function works well if she wants it read to her and to read along. The 10 books are all fun and build on her vocabulary with words that she is still learning while also having plenty of simple words to help build her confidence. The battery is rechargeable which is very nice! We have enjoyed this product so far! He can tap the words and it says each word for him. It also has a story built into the pictures too, if you tap in the characters on each page they have dialog with each other which builds to the story and also there are cute little sounds that the objects in each page will make too. Another neat thing is that there are also little games built into the books. Plus these books are made of quality material and feel tough which should hold up to a toddler who plays rough. But there is one thing that as a parent I find HIGHLY annoying and that is that there's a constant message I hear it say, which tells my child to go ask his parent to go online and purchase more content. I hear it tell him this constantly which really bothers me. We own several products by Leap and they all do this. Leap products are expensive enough and when you buy them they want you to spend more money to be able to have full access to each products features. It also has different modes for reading where it will either read the whole word or sound it out for you. The books it came with are super cute and fun also.
