The toy is a sweet little wooden house with four lockable doors. Each door has its own doorbell with a unique sound, and there are four keys to unlock the doors. The house is provided with four play people, who can be hidden behind the doors. The keys are attached to the house which is very handy and prevents any keys from disappearing never to be found again. For a toddler, there are a lot of functions on this toy; opening and closing doors, the option of hiding people/things inside the house, four doorbells to ring, and four little people to play with. Arlo can't yet operate the locks by himself, so we've been leaving the doors unlocked so he can open and close them as he pleases. I can see the possibilities for play expanding as he gets older - it would make a great little house for roleplay games with the little dolls provided. Our one negative is that on one of the doors, the lock is a bit 'sticky'. So even when the door is unlocked, it will lock when closed. This has caused a bit of frustration with Arlo as he likes to be able to do things by himself but is unable to open this door until one of us comes along with the key. The age range for this toy is 3+, and I can definitely see the Doorbell House keeping Arlo busy for the next couple of years at least.
Date published: 2012-12-10

Rated 2 out of 5 by MotherGeek from Not too keen on this The Melissa And Doug Doorbell House [...]It also does not include the 2x AAA Batteries required for the doorbells to work. When I first opened the House, it looked really pretty. It is suitable for children aged 3 and over.I installed the batteries and set to work "testing" it. The first thing I noticed was that one of the doorbells sticks slightly - this did lessen as I pressed it more, but I can imagine a 3 year old would have found it too stiff to push to begin with. All four bells do have a different sound, though - check out the video below to hear them. The next thing I noticed was that there are no spare keys included, and no auto release on the locks. Basically, if you lose a key, the door is rendered useless. All 4 keys are different, and they are all numbered to help kids associate the correct key with the correct door. The keys are all fastened via a keyring onto a thick black strap. The strap JUST reaches the locks. It can get a bit fiddly, but at least the keys will all be kept safe (as long as your child doesn't remove them from the keyring). You also get 4 wooden dolls, and can pop one behind each door, or they will all fit into the same one too. The dolls look good and can be used in most doll's houses too, I guess.I was all set to write a great review for this doll's house, but then I decided to let my 15 Month old press the bells just to see what he thought of it, and his damp dribbly fingers removed a good chunk of the paper coating just by rubbing it. This toy is definitely not suitable for under 3's. [$]I can't help but think most people would be able to get a better doll's house for their money. If your intended recipient loves keys, doorbells or locks, then they may well love the Melissa And Doug Doorbell House. The house is small enough to be easily transported, and light enough for a 3 year old to carry, but make sure you keep it well away from liquids!
Date published: 2012-10-25

Rated 4 out of 5 by Never Bored of Bubbles from Toyologist review My eyes lit up when I saw this toy, it's a great idea - basically a little street rolled up into one little box! And it's a pretty little wooden toy, us parents seem to have a thing for wooden toys don't we? Probably more so than the kids!! It is basically a wooden box done up like a house with four doors and four working doorbells on each door. Each door bell makes a different sound and you will need to get some batteries to get them going! The feature that really sets this aside is that each little door has it's own dainty lock and key. They aren't chunky ones for little fingers and it has taken a little time for my almost 3 year old to get to grips with them. It is fantastic for her coordination though and although she wanted me to do the locks at first she is now learning that with a bit of patience she can do it herself. It is really good for her I think! I like the fact that the keys are more realistic to real keys rather than chunky plastic ones, I'm just worried she will get a bit too good at it and master our front door!! The keys have a subtle number engraved on them which match the numbers on the door and she picked this up straight away and they are attached to the handle of the house so they can't get lost!! I would say children under 3 would struggle with the locks but you can leave them open and they will happily play with the dolls, doors and doorbells. You get four dolls with the house, 2 girls and 2 boys which fit neatly behind the doors. I had thought there might be some decoration behind the doors but it's just plain wood. This didn't cause my little girl any disappointment though, she is happy playing house with the dolls. The general story line to her play being they all go round and ring on each others door bells to see if they want to play, they all announce they are too busy sleeping / playing / eating / watching telly, so they all have to go home again... then finally they all decide to go for a sleepover at one of the houses. I love the imaginative play this little toy encourages, and I love the details in the pictures on the front if the houses. It's a great toy to take along with you if you are going away, you can lock all the dolls in their houses and then carry it easily by the handle. I took it as a surprise toy for my little girl on our camping trip and it worked a treat. We called it her doll's holiday home and she sat and played happily with it while we got things ready.
Date published: 2012-10-22

y_2024, m_4, d_26, h_5

bvseo_bulk, prod_bvrr, vn_bulk_3.0.42

cp_2, bvpage2n

co_hasreviews, tv_6, tr_11

loc_en_CA, sid_C6C2DB5A, prod, sort_[SortEntry(order=SUBMISSION_TIME, direction=DESCENDING)]

clientName_toysrus-ca

bvseo_sdk, dw_cartridge, 18.2.0, p_sdk_3.2.0

CLOUD, getReviews, 9ms

reviews, product
