It is sturdy enough to hold my weight, too, less that 150 lbs. It is not exactly a true rowing motion. On the highest resistance you can't get a full stroke. On each resistance level it's harder to pull for the first 10 minutes but as the cylinder heats up it gets easier so less resistance but more strokes per minute. The seat is wobbly but you get used to it. It squeaks but I cover that up with head phones. The threads stripped on the bolt you move to adjust resistance; it happened early on and might have been my fault, I may not have had it tight enough. I fixed that with some washers and an aluminum spacer. Soooo with all that said, I do get a good workout with this rower. I'm rowing for an hour on the highest resistance, really gets my heart rate up there, lots of sweat, burning lots of calories. This and a few minutes a day with kettlebells, I'm stronger, leaner and have lost about 15 lbs. The parts are sturdy; the equipment can be moved fairly easily, and it doesn't take up much space. Movement is smooth and the equipment sits on the floor with stability. There are, however, issues. It is rather time consuming to assemble. Customer service was prompt and helpful. I had to ask a couple of questions before I could put everything together correctly. With no errors, it will take you at least an hour. It took me considerably longer. Two people are recommended for assembly because a couple of things are difficult to do by yourself, but I was still able to do them. There are three resistance settings. At the beginning, there is more resistance, but as the pump warms up, it gets easier. The highest setting gives me good, moderate resistance when the pump is warmed up. You have to make sure the resistance knob is tight and firmly set in one of the grooves. Otherwise it could slip, which is dangerous. It slipped on me once, fortunately without incident. Please make sure the knob is tight before beginning a workout. You may have to tighten the knob during a workout. I've used this machine four times for 15-minute sessions. It's good for toning muscles, but not as good aerobically. My old Power Rider is better for that. I'm only 5 foot 7 and a half and 135 pounds; although the rower instructions say it can hold up to 250 pounds, I'm not sure how comfortable or good a workout a large person can get on this machine. The first couple of times I used the rower, the counter was accurate, but the last couple of times it didn't seem to be. I am currently in a small apartment and it does not take a lot of floor space and is easily to pick up (I can set it in front of the TV when I am doing a workout and move it to the side of the room when it is not be used. I did not have the room for a higher quality rower. Some of the weakness (or room for improvement) are: - at the start of the workout, the resistance is quite stiff, which makes it hard to get into a rhythm from the beginning (this resolves it self about 3-5 minutes) - the hydraulic pump tends to squeak at a lot, which can be annoying. (this usually is a problem after the first 10 minutes) - at times I found myself getting jarred at a bit by the stops for the seat close to the front of the machine (this usually comes as I am tired, before a get a regular pace, or an distracted) The positives of this machine is that it is well-built but affordable.
