Don't get get hung up on the initial issue requiring the brick firmware to be updated (and it's not easy to find how to do it...). But there is a good Reddit thread on it. Also Lego customer service sent me detailed instructions. I do have a comment about the hub. It has batteries and isn't rechargeable. So, if your child builds their own robot, they will have to take into consideration access to the batteries. My child was so excited to have built his own creation that he could manipulate via coding and remote control. Then when the batteries died ... he needed to take the whole thing apart to replace the batteries. The build was very easy for an eight-year-old, but he has a lot of fun playing with his robot and enjoys using the controls. He says he really likes the way the robot's eyebrows move up an down when the robot turns his head. This robot is equipped with a lot of tools, and my son really likes that also. He appreciated the new parts that this set comes with: a battery box, a controlling camera and an electric motor. He is building all the different versions that are available based on the instruction and then coding the robots to do whatever is available. He will take a few months off, then go back to it and do it all over again. If for that reason alone, it was worth every penny. However... The tablet- and phone-only app is disappointing. Pretty much all kids have computers of one sort or another these days, especially with COVID-19, and the absence of Windows or Mac apps is a VERY disappointing oversight (to say the least). Even some sort of universal, web-based plug-in would be welcome. My house is full of Surface Pros, Windows, and ChromeOS devices. We have a total of one tablet - a smallish Fire Tablet. Discontinuing Windows support may have made sense in 2018, but now it is a head-scratcher. Also, not having universal Chromebook support is an odd omission for a company with Lego's resources. We get Boost and things went wrong. We have boost since first day release and until now we did not fully enjoy it. It would be a complete if just provide this toy with a controller. So we tried to solve the problem of not using the iPad to build or play with Boost we couldn't, you cannot even avoid being connected to the net 100%. Lego listen I am sure 90% of your parents buyers don't want the kids to hold an iPad connected to the net. So we as a family suggest to Lego to come up with their own controller that can handle and control and build Lego without connecting to the iPad, something like Kindle with colors. We are avid Lego fans so our son has been exposed from an early age to Lego. If your child is used to Lego Duplo this will be challenging build. And the pieces might be difficult to manipulate. And they might get frustrated. Your child needs to be able to build with smaller pieces than Duplo. Lego Duplo has a coding train if your child is used to Duplo. ( Lego Duplo coding express). The coding in Lego Boost creative toolbox is from basic to more complicated. The app teaches your child to code. C'est vraiment tr&egrave;s dommage car jouer avec les blocs de programmation sur un ordinateur c'est quand meme bien plus simple que sur une tablet ou un telephone... I ended up finding the full instructions online to complete the build, since the app prevents you to move on. She loves playing with her Boost set and she thinks it is very cute (her words here). In general it is a really fun set to play with. I do have to help her with the programming interface and she is still not able to program by herself but it has definitely promoting her interest in programming. The overall experience with the software has been flawless (we use it under iOS).
