With around 25 pieces this was an easy set to put together. My son and I built it and had a blast. He loves that Thomas has Seagulls painted on him and the boat Skiff is very cute. The bridge is by far his favorite part of this set. The bridge easily goes up and town. It was pretty easy for my 5-year-old to assemble, but my 3-year-old is still figuring that out. Both of them can operate the bridge and train just fine though. There's one piece of track that makes it a lot easier for them to get the train on correctly; we think that's a great feature (getting the wheels lined up just right can be hard, but this piece eliminates that issue). My boys aren't obsessed with trains like some are, but I wanted to get a different kind of you for them. This did it! My son was so excited to get it. Putting it together was a breeze- very easy. It stays together really well, except one part by the billboard. The billboard and the water feature comes off fairly easy so they might get lost. Other than that the rest of the track stays together which I am really happy about. The train and boat are very easy to put on the track. My 3 yr old son can do it all by himself. The only thing is that he got tired of lifting and lowering the bridge so he eventually took the boat off and just let Thomas run around the track. But that&rsquo;s not a big deal. He loves it. The instructions to put the track together were very easy to follow because the tracks were stamps on bottom with a code that let you know where each piece went if you looked at the paper that had picture with track and code. It was ready in five minutes and although I would have preferred it to include the two batteries necessary to run the train and part of the track, two batteries were not excessive to have to buy. My son has it set up in his room and both he and his four year old sister love to play with it they can easily turn it on and off themselves so that is a plus and the bridge is also made simple to operate by young children without parental assistance. My son loves turning it on and just watching it go around and around and puts other toys of his like action figures and stuffed animals around and act like they are getting on the train and riding different places. And my daughter puts her dolls and barbies around and does the same. She was able to put it together and she can take it apart. The Thomas the Tank train is very easy to put on the track and it doesn't jump off. She loves it, she pretends like she has the boat in water. I would recommend the Thomas the Tank train and track to any child 3 years and up to 8 or 9 years old. It is made of hard plastic, and no rough edges.
