They can pet the back and it sings to them, bird calls or nursery rhymes. They can push a buttom on the birds chest to record their voice saying something and the bird repeats it back. It is easy to clean with a damp rag or papertowel. My youngest just turned two and gets it dirty all the time. She takes it everywhere with her, even sleeps with it. She doesn't use the cage much, but loves the food and waterbowl that cam with it. My 5.75 and 4 year olds love their birds as well. And like the cage more than my youngest. We just got one cage but three birds and it seems to be just perfect. Since the older two like to put their birds in the cage together and youngest just wants to hold hers all the time. Also the older two like to take the bird swing out and carry birds around on it. The only reason I didn't give these five stars is that I thought the birds sang together, like digibirds, but they don't or at least it's not in the instructions if they do. The kids don't care though, they love these birds just the way they are. The songs are cute and not too high on the pitch level and the record and repeat function is so fun. The quality of the bird is exceptional and I love that it uses AAA batteries and not watch batteries.
