This is the only toy so far that is really cool and that teaches a lot. The globe came with a pen which, when you touch the globe, tells you about the country. If you want to check what you learned, you can do a little test. This is a great gift for every child as well as for adults. You can learn a lot and choose where to go on vacation. The globe is used daily. Even when the children go to sleep, my husband and I have fun. I highly recommend buying this globe expecially nowadays where most children learn from home. It is great for learning geography as well as world history. Overall, the globe is recommended for older children, but my 3-year-old son also sits and plays and learns at the same time. The globe itself is similar in size as a traditional globe and the globe's base boasts a 2.7&rdquo; viewing screen to assist kids in learning and connecting country facts and information to their respective locations on the globe. You are able to adjust both volume and brightness. The globe spins easily for little ones and is easy to operate. To start, you use the attached stylus to gently tap on the interactive base to select the type of information you would like to learn about or to select one of the games. Next, tap a spot on the globe with the stylus. A concise BBC video will now play for that country based on whatever topic of information you selected to learn about, which includes animals, geography, landmarks, cultures, etc. You can go back to the base and click on a different topic or you can tap back on the globe. When using this toy, my kids are engaged and I think the short videos play a vital role. If your child forgets to turn off the globe, it will shut down automatically after it is unused for a few minutes, thereby saving the battery. The kids enjoy playing with the globe and watching the videos and I like that they are learning about geography and cultures. If I do not remind her to take a break she will sit quietly playing for over a hour with this globe. My youngest child is 5 and my oldest is 12 and they both LOVE it! To be honest my 40 year old self even enjoys it and it&rsquo;s teaching me quite a few things :) It has a variety of games and also the option of two player mode. I had some concern that it couldn&rsquo;t withstand the wear and tear of tiny hands spinning it uncontrollably but to my surprise it is still standing! Sound and video quality are both equally great and both the volume and brightness of the screen can be adjusted. The only complaint I have is the stylus. I would prefer for it to be a little longer because it proves to be a slight challenge to maneuver. Also it won&rsquo;t stay securely in place in the spot provided when you are finished playing. These are just tiny tweeks and as a parent I can totally work around so still getting 5 stars from me! Though my 4.5 year old is a little bit young to fully understand what the videos are talking about, he has played with this every day for the past week and this globe will be perfect for him to continue learning as he gets older. The globe itself is very attractive and looks nice on display in our playroom. It is nicely colored, spins smoothly, and is surprisingly lightweight. The video quality is great, and I love that the stylus is attached (since my kids tend to lose everything). I do wish that there were an option to use headphones, as it is rather noisy. Even when not watching a video, there is constant music playing which I find unnecessary. I do like that there is an automatic shut off feature though, and the battery life seems to last a pretty long time. I was pleasantly surprised with this globe, and it has quickly become one of our favorite toys.
