<span itemprop="description">Fun set with a really great design aside from the bucket which is terribly limited. It's just about impossible to keep pieces in the bucket, even when it's completely curled inward. It also doesn't open very much when fully extended. It's a tragedy.
I partially blame the new bucket design. I'm not not a die hard Technic old schooler by long shot, but this new bucket with the holes inline with each other is all wrong. I believe the designers of this set could have done a better job with the arm geometry, but I'm sure it was much more difficult with this part. The fix is dead simple though: use the old excavator bucket.
The old bucket with almost identical dimensions was found on other LEGO excavators and backhoes from 1992 to 2014. With the 2950 bucket and 3-4 included parts it's a dead simple swap that drastically improves range of motion with no trade offs. Playability goes from depressing to marveling in awe at the engineering.
Find and buy part no. 2950 - "Technic Digger Bucket 4 x 4 x 9 with 3 teeth" available in black and yellow. Move a couple pieces around, put this set on your desk, and never disassemble.
This is a 4/10 set out of the box, 11/10 set with the mod. It's that bad, and that good at the same time.
