The contents were just as the box pictured. There were 238 pieces to put together. It took my 9 year old and myself about an hour altogether to put all of the pieces together. It was not very difficult at all. There were only some pieces that she had a little trouble to figure out, but with my help she got it fairly quickly. This set is so beautiful and detailed. The Belle and Beast figures are so pretty and cute. My daughter absolutely loved building this set. She is 5 years old and this set was perfect for her age. It took her around 2 hours to complete it. The instruction booklet is very detailed so she was able to follow it and build the set pretty much by herself. She was so happy once she completed it and was so proud of her creation. She has put it up in her room and loves playing with it. There were a lot of little pieces but they were separated into different bags based on what part you were working on. It is definitely for kids around her age. It's not for 2 to 4 year old's to build them. The Lego's come in separate bags that are numbered so you can easily follow the directions in the building process. The directions make it very easy to follow. They give you a picture of each piece and where it goes. The picture's make it easy to count how many pegs are showing for the next piece so you don't put it in one direction too far. There are a lot of small pieces with this set you only want to open one bag at a time and you want to build it on a table so you can keep track of all of the pieces. I have included photos that start from emptying the box to the finished castle. I am very impressed on how awesome the castle turned out. The kids love it. My 8 year old granddaughter took it up to her bedroom and stores it there. No one's allowed to touch it unless she's there with them. She goes up there and plays with it for hours. This is going to be a project that we keep adding onto the castle and making it as big as we can get it. The characters are awesome looking. Even if your kids aren't big fans of Lego's, this will get their interest going. I recommend it to anyone with kids. It's fun and entertaining. They read the directions and put the product together piece by piece. It turned out really well. My daughters like all the characters that came with this set. They also like all the pretty colors. They have this set on their book case so they can look at it. They do take it down to play with when they want to play make believe. It came with all of the favorite characters we love from Beauty and the Beast. The pieces are lovely and detailed- a very nice set to own. After she was done building, she still plays for long periods of time with all the different pieces using imaginative play. She will sit at the table and play away. It's great! This is a wonderful introductory set because she could build it on her own following the instruction booklet and feel like a big girl doing it pretty much by herself. I think these young playsets are a great way to segway into some of the more advanced sets that her older sister does.
