So far they remain intact, which says a lot for our family of builders. He had so much fun trying to build something. He finally made the helicopter on the picture of the box. We all enjoyed helping him. There is a lot of pieces and many things you can put together. The build is simple enough for younger children appropriate for the 5+ age suggestion. The minifigures look great as well. I do have a few issues that drop the value of this set for me. First, a patient minifigure would add a lot of play value. I suppose the chopper could transport the truck driver, however he seems find without injury. Second, the 4-wheeled truck trailer is difficult to turn and backup. It isn&rsquo;t realistic either. Two tandem wheels matching the tractor tires in back would be much better for play. Third is my major criticism. The helicopter rotor blade isn&rsquo;t secured by a chain or stop meaning as you drive through your LEGO city streets the rotor will swing and smack into everything on either side. The previous helicopter transport had a nifty chain to secure the rotor blade and was an overall better set. She is really great at putting them together, and was able to get this one done without much help (she's had a lot of practice with other sets too!). She especially loved the spinning rotor on the helicopter. All the pieces were there and durable, obviously. He absolutely loved it though! The instructions were easy to read and the pieces were kept separate enough to know which ones went where. The real challenge was when he took it apart and tried again with all the pieces in one big pile. This will keep them busy for hours!! It has some really neat pieces like the front of the helicopter that are unique and make it more realistic than just the regular square pieces. There are even wheel &quot;locks&quot; to hold the helicopter on so it doesn't fall off the trailer when pulled. Typical lego bricks are great fun but it is difficult to make a helicopter or truck out of squares and rectangles. The whole thing took them about 45 minutes to an hour while working together. The steps were easy follow and may oldest pointed out that the pages have a meter on them to show how much you have finished on the project and how much is left. This helped with the younger kids getting antsy about how much longer it would take. The details on the set are really neat and kept the kids playing together for hours. There is a little stretcher, the back of the helicopter opens and closes, the top spins, the trailer pivots and the characters ride inside. Over all a wonderful set, the pieces are unique and add so much interest to lego time. Regular lego bricks go wonderfully to make a city that the characters can rescue each other in various situations, encouraging play together and imagination.
