It is very interesting for him with the lights, sounds and working fire hose, which is of course his favorite feature. There are different fire noises, that are loud enough to be intriguing to little ones, but not obnoxiously loud to parents! There are also varying light patterns, which are super cute! The water hose sprays surprisingly far, and while the holding area is not very large (which is good for when my son insists on playing with it indoors), it is very easy to refill. We did have an issue on the first day with the sounds being intermittent, my husband took the bottom off and was able to fix the loose wire with some electrical tape.
