The wood is very smooth with no snags or splintery pieces. The paint is adhering well, and is not chipping off in spite of being played with by a four-year-old and a nine month old! The magnet is very strong and holds the two pieces together very well. It does fit on his brio tracks. The wood was very sturdy and held up during the many times that he would drop it (he's 3 and literally drops everything.) The only thing that kept frustrating him was that when he would try to turn the train around or move fast with it, the magnet wouldn't hold. The train would end up separating and that would really upset him. As long as he stayed straight, it worked with no issues. Overall, I would say that my son enjoyed the toy. We have collected a lot of Thomas &amp; Friends trains over the years, and are so excited that they have gone back to the previous design style! This train is well-built, and the packaging was easy to open, which my 4-year-old loved. Hiro was a great addition to the Thomas train he already had. He enjoys racing the two trains around the tracks and makes up adventures for them. It is built very strong to withstand a 3 year old and has such awesome detail. It is easy to push and the wheels glide quite smoothly. The magnet connector is strong so the tender holds to the train better than other models I have had.
