I never used a thermometer before having a baby and I now realize the importance of having a reliable, easy to use thermometer! Some of the amazing features for this thermometer (rated in importance order by me!) are: 1. Easy to read and select age-range options on the fly. 2. Memory lets you track readings over time. 3. Color coded display changes to notify you if there is a fever detected within your child's age range. 3. Comes with disposable ear (lens) filters. 4. Is very quick to read and display the temperature. 5. Has a convenient cover/case that will help me keep it clean and contained! This thermometer couldn't have been delivered to me at a better time. My son got some of his vaccinations this week and the doctor told us to watch out for a fever over the next 24 hours. Using this I was able to quickly, non-invasively take his temperature several times the next day without questioning whether I was doing it right, or whether I wrote down the number correctly! It's a great product that will come in handy for years to come. To test it out, I tried it in the ear using a trusted spirit thermometer and this device. The ThermoScan 7 gave the same temperature (within a few 1/10s a degree) in a much faster time which is appreciated if you have a fussy toddler about. First you turn it on, put a cap on the probe, select the age of the person you're taking the temperature of, then put the probe into the ear then press and let go of the start button. Once you hear the beep you'll have a temperature. To better track how fever is progressing, it saves the last 9 temperatures, which is appreciated when you're a bit sleep deprived. The display will be green for a good range, yellow if it's borderline or red if you're in a fever state. You can easily change the temperature to either C or F, depending on what you better understand as a fever. Things I would like to see with this is that it takes AA batteries. I'd prefer it if it was a cell battery instead of having to rely on AAs. Also, since you need a cap on the probe that you probably want to change between temperatures and individuals, it's a bit wasteful. Cleaning them could be an option but not recommended. You can buy additional caps and can store them in the holder just under the thermometer so you don't have to scrounge for them, but obviously this will produce waste as you can more easily clean a glass thermometer. All things considered it performs very well. As I mentioned above it's great for those that have a fussy child or sensitive to getting their temperature taken. If you don't like the idea of having to buy batteries and plastic probe caps maybe skip this, but given it saves the last few temperatures for you and takes a quick, accurate temperature. It holds the last 9 readings in its memory- which I think would be ideal for sleep deprived moms of sick infants (nothing worse!) it comes with batteries, a protective case and 21 disposable lens filters. I used this on my two daughters recently, ages 2 and 4. I have also used it on myself. It is incredibly user friendly, even on impatient little ones. It reads the temperature rather quickly and only has a few buttons, which keeps things simple. I like that my young kids can read it based on its colour coding system (green= healthy, yellow= fever, red= high fever) my only draw back with this is the disposable lens filters. I understand their purpose, but I don't like the waste associated with them or the need to have to continuously buy more. All in all, I think this is a great product. I enjoy using it because of its simplicity and efficiency. It's age adjustable fever guidance fits the entire family. This ear thermometer was carefully developed for accurate, safe and fast ear temperature measurements. The ear probe is shaped to prevent it from being inserted too far into the ear canal, avoids touching the eardrum. I am impressed by the features of this product. It features an age precision button and colour coded display that is very easy to read, even in a darkened room. It has both visual and audible system for assurance of correct ear positioning. It reads position error so as to keep probe still in the ear. It will tell if the finished temperature reading is too high or low and reads in either Celsius or Fahrenheit. A push button selects an age range of 0-3 months, 3-36 months and 36+ months - adult. It has been proven to provide a more accurate temperature than anywhere else! It comes with a package of lens filters that attach to a pre-warmed tip, no cold irritating probe in small ears. I first read the instructions to familiarize myself with its use. I practiced using it on myself a few times to get comfortable handling it before testing it on my child. It is lightweight and compact and fit and operated comfortably in one hand. It's buttons and display screen are very easy to see and read. It's lights are bright and change colour, if temperature is normal a green colour or red if high temperature and yellow for error, for example improper probe placement. I then attached a new probe cover on the probe lens, ensured the lens was clean. I selected the my child's age on the Age Precision button, inserted the probe into the ear canal and once comfortable and steady, pressed and released the Start button. The ExacTemp light pulsed while the temperature was being taken followed by a long beep to signal completed measurement and then showed a normal temperature result of 36.9 degrees Celsius on the display. If error in ear canal placement it would have beeped a rapid sequence. It didn't! My child was old enough so as to sit still during the process so it was very easy to use the ThermoScan! It's a great feeling to know that I can rely on the ThermoScan ear thermometer for peace of mind!
