Most of the places we go don't have bleachers or anywhere else to sit but the grass, so we really need something to sit on and blankets that are small enough to carry around aren't thick enough to be comfortable. Enter the Outdoor mat! This thing is awesome especially with the fold up into a bag with a strap style! This is so handy and has become very useful. Its light and easy to carry with the long strap that's attached to it and it folds up pretty small so that it's smaller than carrying a diaper bag, but can unfold to seat several people on it. It keeps us off the damp, dirty ground and comfortable enough to sit on it for extended periods of time. I love it and I won't leave home without it when we are going to be outside. Once warmer weather comes we spend a lot of time at the beach and this will be great for using there as well! If you spend time outdoors and have a need for carting chairs around or blankets this solves a huge problem! No more dragging bulky chairs around or carrying blankets to places you need to be able to sit! He loves being outdoors and doesn't walk yet so we like to stay on the blanket and eat, play and people watch at the park. It's easy to clean and I can fold it easily with him on the carrier. It was a hassle to get it shipped. I wasn't home so Purolator left a claim tag for me to pick up at their warehouse. It was a 30-min drive away, and difficult to find. My baby kept crying in the carseat while I was searching for it (wasn't in the GPS, it was one of those streets that are disconnected with a huge field in the middle). I recently took it to an outdoor concert. It had just rained before I spread it out on the ground and none of the water came through - we were one of the very few people with dry bums that day! The blanket folds up really well and I like that I can carry it on my shoulder. The reason this does not get five stars is because the plastic chemical smell is incredibly potent. I aired it out for three days outside. I thought it was all gone but now that it is back in my house, I can still smell it when I walk by. It's been two weeks since I took it out of the package. I don't want my baby laying on this and inhaling all the toxic fumes. I will definitely air it out another week or so outside and hopefully it will finish off-gassing.
