It has two sides that is great for younger kids just learning to spell and the other side is great for kids that can spell but are not ready for the classic version of scrabble. My kids loved the little scrabble characters to move around the board although the game does go slow for this side. I'm thinking we may use extra tiles or give extra points so the characters can move more quickly around the board side. Flipping the board over was fun as I could play with my older child. This version is truly one that you can break out for a bit of family fun time without having to watch the clock, become stressed out and the children aren't playing for so long that they tire of it. I think the dollar values are easy to manage for younger children (there are only one dollar bills included with this) and the pieces are simple to keep track of. For anyone above 7 or so, I do believe that the variety in funds is beneficial and helps to improve math skills but sometimes it's less about the learning aspect and more about fun- right?The one main downfall, for me, is that the new plastic pieces don't have the same weight, hand feel and appeal that the old ones do. They look more like toys and my youngest daughter wanted to put the kitty in with her Littlest Pet Shop animals. The game is set up in less than 5 minutes and each round took about 20-30 minutes to play. My children are 3 &amp; 4 years old. They enjoyed the game for the most part, but some aspects seemed too complex for them. The &quot;Chance&quot; cards and the &quot;Go to Jail&quot; concept were just too difficult for them to comprehend and caused a lot of confusion &amp; frustration. Once I realized that they weren't going to 'get it,' my solution was to just not use the Chance cards or acknowledge the &quot;Go to Jail&quot; space. After doing that, we were golden! They loved buying the different properties (the Ice Cream Shop is the most popular!) and getting paid! The bills are all $1, so it's simple enough for them to count out what is due while reinforcing their counting abilities. They are too young to play by themselves, so adult guidance is needed (but that's where the 20-30 minute game-play is perfect!). I was pleasantly surprised by Monopoly Junior! I've never been the biggest fan of Monopoly due to the length and complex nature of the game. Our family has always loved to play Monoloply but it seemed like you had to 10/12 before we invited you to the game. So when our family saw the Monopoly Jr. Game we were all excited. Our eight year old read the directions and the game was on. Our six and eight year old played against their dad and nana. The best part of the night was when the six year old won the game! Personally, game boards don't excite me, but my kids love them. A game of Monopoly junior is quick enough that I can play a game with my kids and not get too frustrated. Even my 4 year old was able to last the whole game. I like that the rules are easy to follow, and the money amounts are done in one dollar bills. I love that it's teaching my kids math skills (especially my youngest) and they don't even know they're learning. My only complaint would be that there are no slots to store the money, chance cards, and tokens.
