My Son Plays With This Every DayFor those that know and love the engines of Sodor, this is the perfect addition to any Thomas Wooden Railway set. My son adores the devious Diesel 10, and was so excited to get this. The detail is wonderful and accurate to Diesel 10's movie appearances - and he's smiling, so he can also be a good engine. The claw on top extends and retracts, which is great. The magnets on either end let him attach to any other Wooden Railway engine or car. And this toy, along with everything I've seen of this line, is very durable. My son drops them and crashes them into one another, and these things do not break. Even the paint holds up quite well.

Very nice trainI bought this for my son for Christmas as he asked for him specifically after watching the "Day of the Diesels" movie nonstop for a few days. Diesel 10 is now his new favorite engine to use on the wooden railway table we bought him for his birthday. It is very well made as are all the wooden railway tracks trains and accessories I have purchased. I order this online and it got here a day early as well! :)

No Choo-Choo For This TrainNot a very good train at all. My grandson didn't even like it!It was just boring and the color looked disgusting. It doesn't even look like a true engine should. I soon enough returned it and gave him something else.

Every hero needs a villain.Fun addition to our train set. I was surprised that the claw only moved back and forth a little bit. I expected it to lift up. That certainly hasn't ruined the fun for my two year old who is obsessed with Thomas trains.

Needs better clawMy son wanted Diesel 10 SOOO badly and when he first got this he was very excited. Now he doesn't care too much. I feel like they could have made his claw do more.

Diesel 10 - Menace of the Railway?I purchased this product in 2015 as an addition to my wooden railway collection. I had previously owned an version of Diesel 10 from 2000, the first year it came out, and was interested in purchasing a new one for my collection. The previous model had been a classic one and I had thoroughly enjoyed it; as a result I was interested in purchasing this newer, redesigned one, looking forward to similar memories being created. Unfortunately, the model I purchased is not as well-done as the original, and in fact is more disappointing to myself as a collector and enthusiast of the Thomas Wooden Railway. At first glance, the character seems to have all of the right elements in place. The paint details on the sides are nicely done and capture Diesel 10's looks well, while his colour scheme seems to work for him (despite the fact it is a bit too pale a shade of yellow ochre). The face, as per Thomas Wooden Railway standards, is detailed very well and is quite accurate to the current iteration of Diesel 10 in the television series in facial structure.Where Diesel 10 ultimately falls down as a wooden model in this current version is in three areas: the quality, the face, and the claw. The biggest issue with this model is the quality of it; far from being a high-quality product, its quality is merely average in this instance. The paint is not as glossy or as well-finished as other Thomas Wooden Railway products, and at times the roof has clear seams where the claw mechanism has been glued into the main body. Some edges are curved as per the manufacturing standards, but not all of them,Most shockingly, the roof profile looks very distorted. In the television series, Diesel 10 has a curved roof profile; on this wooden model, the roof is more squared than curved, resulting in a misshapen looking locomotive. The older model of Diesel 10 had this roof profile captured much more correctly, so to see this step backwards is very disappointing, and alters the look of the character in a poor way.The face is a weak point as well; though it is well-detailed, and looks like that of the television series, the biggest issue is its expression - it is a gentle, happy, cheerful face. Anyone familiar with Diesel 10's character will know that this is a vicious, menacing, villainous character, who wears a smirk of trickery when out and about. This face is not the face of Diesel 10; especially coupled with the massive threatening claw on the roof, this facial expression looks out of place - and this is a very important part of the model. Children identify with the faces of the characters, and to see Diesel 10 with this face dilutes the character's strength as a character. Well-done though it may be, it is wrong for this particular character to have this facial expression.Perhaps the best point about this wooden model is the infamous claw, which is able to be moved in and out and positioned during play and operation. Sadly, however, this claw can only move in and out; it cannot move up and down, and cannot move side to side; it will bend out of shape or else break if forced to do so, being made of plastic. It is also disappointing that the entire top section of the body is made of plastic for the mechanism, instead of part being made of wood. It is very easy to see which parts are made of wood and which of plastic on this model.Ultimately this wooden model is very disappointing for myself as a wooden railway collector. Its quality does not live up to expectation compared to other items from the same brand and company I have purchased, its face is incorrect for the character, and the claw mechanism is limited in its uses. Though the paint detailing is well-done, the majority of the model is made of real wood, and the model itself is a passable interpretation of Diesel 10 for some, I am personally dissatisfied with this product as it stands. Considering the previous version I had owned, this new Diesel 10 is a step backwards in my estimation, and disappoints me in how close they could have been to a very high-quality Diesel 10 model. As it is, it still has the quality that it will not be dangerous for children to play with, and so I cannot say it should not be purchased - however, I would say that this version is too much of a compromise in quality and detail for me to want to recommend it to anyone wanting a TRUE Diesel 10 wooden railway model. The older versions were far better in quality, detail, and character than this version, and considering the other products released from this company at this time it is a real shame.
