LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book 21315 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from super fun My six year old and I put this lego together. It was fun to build and has two different scenes on the inside. It really pops up like the old pop up books. Fun to build and play with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I brought this set the weekend of its launch and it is awesome. First of all, the price per piece is excellent. Next, the book design is really cool. I love the color scheme, and the fact that there are no stickers. Everything is printed. I also like that the scenes can be displayed outside of the book. The minifigures are very detailed and very high quality. I love getting a new color for the hair-hood combo. Also, they included a jack mircofigure, which is adorable. The scenes themselves are very cool and use excellant pieces, like the teapot in hot pink. It is also very easy to store. Overall, I highly recommend this set. Go out and get it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from cool product It's the cool product which I bought for my 6-year-old daughter. However, the instructions on the booklet have some parts very confused and I had to go back and forth to figure them out. Other than that, it's the cool toy to learn.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pop-Up Book I love the pop up book, wish you didn’t have to change out stories, plus no place to store story you are not using...other then that I love the idea

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Why only one "book"? The design idea is really cool and well executed but Lego really messed up with how it is packaged. You get 1 book with 2 "stories." The problem is that outside of the book the "stories" are useless and you can only put one in the book at a time. They should have either made 2 different sets with one book and one story each and charged less for each or put 2 books and 2 stories in the set and charged a little more. As it is, you get one really cool book and a bunch of worthless extra pieces as there is no convenient way to display the extra story outside of the book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Popping pop up! I'm a fan of Red Riding Hood so I knew I wanted this set as soon as I heard out about it. It was a nice addition to have Jack and the Bean stalk also and to have all the pieces for both builds. I've opted to keep the Bean Stalk build inside the book and will use the Red Riding Hood build as a foundation for a full Grandma cottage build of my own. My only critique would be that all the dark green grass on both builds was a bit plain, would have been nice to perhaps have some stickers for grass and flowers perhaps but other then that a lovely, creative and charming build. Particularly loved the mini figs and the fireplace in the cottage was very cute. :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome set, but one critique I love everything about this set. I think it's such a great idea and in fact I hope that LEGO will create some mini sets to change out the story in the book in the future. Because I like it so much and think that all the stops were pulled out for this set except for a couple of areas, I am going to be extra critical... LEGO, I feel like you could have sprung for some more dark green bricks. Instead using black in places where you can see the color on the front and back covers in two spots and along the bottom, the green really would have made this 100%. I swapped out the two black 1x1 bricks with the two studs that could be seen on the front and back for green ones and in the spaces that were left empty because I stole the green ones from, I put in a couple of gray ones that I had (those are hidden by the large plates on the front and back cover. However they can be seen when the book is open. A better alternative, though. However along the bottom where there are black 1x2 bricks with front facing studs, I had to leave them because I don't have dark green ones in my collection of LEGO. Is it really terrible? No, but this and one other set are my absolute favorite sets ever so I was being really picky. Really awesome that it made it into the LEGO Ideas line and so thrilled to have it :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great idea for a set When I first bought this set, I wasn’t really sure if it was worth it. The mechanism works perfectly and the hard work that JK Brickworks has put in is amazing. You can make up endless stories with this set. Its potential is great. Making up stories is easy. You can retell classic stories or make up your own. I highly recommend this set to anyone who is a fan of creating stories or likes interesting ideas and mechanisms.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lego pop up book It is fun to build but doesn't seem to have a lot of play functions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a creative set! I bought this for my younger son as a present. He is not 12 but managed to build most of the set himself (and hence the long build time). Not only the pop up function works great, it is designed so you can actually build and swap in your own scene. The book can be closed and flushed properly. The minifigs are great and there is a lot of replay value in the set. My son loves it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brick Book I work in a library, so this Lego set was a "Must Have." I really like the design, and it was really easy to figure out the mechanism for the pop up function of the book. It's a new level of creativity for Lego and very well done. I don't remember exactly how long for building, but no more than the 3 hours I stated. It was really fun to put together. Thanks, Lego, for such wonderful creativity. The possibilities are endless!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product It is a great LEGO set. I enjoy it, very much. The figures are great and so are the book scenes. You can also create your own for the book as well. Personally, I think it is one of the best Idea Sets ever!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic New Idea! When I first saw this book offered I immediately put my order in and could not wait for them to arrive. I say them because when I read your description that one book had two stories in them I decided that I needed two books in order to display them in my "Lego" room. I was glad that I did. I know that I now have extra parts but my display is great and everyone loves these books. These stories are perfect and I can hardly wait until you come out with more. It's too bad, for my purpose, that I had to purchase two books, but I was glad that I did. For display purposes I do not know of an alternative way to handle these two stories. The downside to show my friends or for play experience is that the mini-figures do not stay in place or fit in when opening or closing the books. Well this is a start of a fantastic new idea and I'm excited to see if your wonderful company will take this idea and run with it. I love my Legos and I have a room full of them and I will be turning 80 in a couple of months. Please hurry with new ideas-HA HA!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A One of a Kind Set Once I saw the video of the Jack and the Beanstalk scene unfolding and the beanstalk extending upward with a min-castle and a mini-jack on a cloud, I was sold. I loved putting the set together and really enjoy how it works. However, this set isn't perfect. The biggest drawback is that you can only have one scene in the book at any given time: Little Red Riding Hood, or Jack and the Beanstalk. There's also no space to store the other scene, so you'll need a storage container to store the other set when it's not in use. You can close the book all the way with the Jack and the Beanstalk scenery in it, but with the Little Red Riding Hood scene, it doesn't close 100 percent with all three mini-figures in it. I honestly wouldn't have minded paying 150-200 dollars more for a larger book that had space to store things, or would have allowed at least a couple scenes from a story to be used at once. Still, for what it is and for the price, it's still a really fun set. Everyone who loves books and Legos would enjoy this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I really enjoyed building this set, and had an even better time telling and animating the story for my two youngest! The manual is great - not only does it include easy to follow instructions, but gives some insight to the people and the stories for the set. Any set which inspires creativity, and tells a story, is a huge winner. Thank you Lego for going above the norm with this set. My girls play with this also as a playset, and it is fun to hear and watch them play.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 21315 Pop-Up Book 21315 Pop-Up Book is the 23rd Lego Ideas set, which means the original design was done by one or more Lego fans, and received 10,000 votes on the Lego Ideas webpage before being approved for production. The set has 859 pieces, which makes it the 5th largest Ideas set thus far. The set comes in a pretty box printed with dark brown bricks (the stone version, not plastic ones) and reddish brown wood. The front shows a closed Pop-Up Book on a wooden desk accompanied by an unlit candle, some papers, an inkwell, and very old eye glasses, and there are two small images of the book's interior printed on the corner. The back of the box shows the scene changing function and what's going on inside the book in more detail. Cracking open the push tabs that seal the box reveals 6 bags and two 8x16 plates loose inside the box, along with the instruction manual. The manual is 152 pages long, and there are 225 numbered steps pictured in it. The instruction manual is not in a separate plastic bag, probably because there are no stickers in this set. My manual was slightly bent. All of the bags are numbered (from 1 to 6). The manual starts with an introduction of the two fan designers (Jason Allemann and Grant Davis), then does the same for the Lego designers. After that there is a short history of pop-up books in general, followed by a little background and introduction of both stories featured in this set, i.e. Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. The actual build starts at page 10 with the bricks from bag #1, which contains earth green and black pieces and builds the lower part of the book. Bag #2 has even more earth green and black pieces, plus a surprise of two reddish brown ones. These are the pieces for the upper half of the book. At this stage, the build has been very repetitive, which does not come as a surprise. Bag #3 reveals the first minifigures: Grandmother and the Wolf. At this stage the bricks are used to build the "pages" of the book, the corner landscape bits, the reddish brown ornaments for the cover, back and spine of the book, and grandmother's bed, plus a table with a teapot and a mug. Another minifigure lurks in bag #4, Little Red Riding Hood. The bag also contains the pieces for Grandmother's cottage facade and its folding mechanism. The final minifigure of this set is in bag 5, which has the pieces to build the Giant, a microfigure Jack, and the larger foldable bits of the landscape for Jack and the Beanstalk story. Bag #6 is the last bag of the set and builds the separate, smaller piece of landscape below the beanstalk, the stalk itself, the giant's castle, and some gray bits that anchor the string which pulls up the stalk. My set had 30 extra pieces in it, including a spare microfigure Jack. The build is not very difficult, in my opinion, and I made only a couple of small mistakes when assembling the set. The most difficult part for me, personally, was the technic bits (again). I also noticed that one needs to have correct lighting when building the set, otherwise it is rather easy to mix up the earth green and black bricks, either when looking at the instructions or when building with the actual bricks (or both at the same time). When playing with the set, I found the folding mechanisms for both stories to work perfectly. At one point, the book did not close properly when the Little Red Riding Hood scene was inside it, but this was because Grandmother's bed was ever so slightly off-kilter. It must be pressed against the fake pages quite tightly. I found the beanstalk function absolutely exhilarating and could not believe my eyes when the contraption actually fitted inside the book without a hitch. The cottage facade is very pretty and ornamental (which must have been difficult to accomplish with a limited number of pieces and space available), and the (working!) microscale windmill and houses are adorable. When the Little Red Riding Hood scene is inside the book, all of the four minifigures actually fit in when the book is closed, but only just. The fit is better if Little Red Riding Hood is parted from her basket. There is enough space at the foot and head of the bed for three of the figures and one figure just about fits between the corner landscape bits. The set pieces for the Jack and the Beanstalk story take less space and all figures fit inside comfortably. I do have a few very minor gripes: When carrying her basket Little Red Riding Hood topples over easily and the pastries in the basket get thrown around. A limited number of exposed studs on the earth green surface means the minifigues rarely stay upright, but the lack of studs is in this case very understandable and would limit, or perhaps prohibit, the folding function. There is no space left to store the other scene, but to include such a space would mean a lot more bricks and a substantial price hike. I think a print for the spine would have made the exterior perfect. There is an abundance of new printed pieces and recolors in Pop-Up Book: earth green 1x12 brick (element ID 6252592), earth green brick 1x1x1 2/3 with 2 vertical knobs (element ID 6252591), earth green hinge 1x2 lower part (6252589), earth green hinge 1x2 upper part (6252590), reddish brown flat tile 8x16 (6250298), dark brown wooden door (6254792), all of the reddish brown printed tiles (1x6 'Allemann' 6254441, 1x6 'Davies' 6254450, 8x16 6254400). All minifigure torsos (6254512, 6254507, 6254491, 6254516), both Grandmother's (6254948) and Wolf's legs (6254523), Wolf's head (6251969), Little Red Riding Hood's skirt (6252836) and hood (6251995), and microfigure Jack (6251962). If I have my facts straight, these all are bricks and pieces that are currently available only in this set, but I hope they will be used again in future sets. In my opinion, after numerous robots, spaceships, buildings and vehicles, the Pop-Up Book feels very fresh, just what the Ideas platform is all about. As I am not the most imaginative builder in the world, I hope the future will will bring a set of additional scenes and stories for the Pop-Up Book. I would recommend this set for those who like books, pop-up mechanisms, fairy tales, earth green bricks, or the ones looking for something different to build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Once Upon a Brick This set has several things going for it. It's a book and I love books. I love fairy tales and enjoyed telling them to my children, my students and now my grandchildren. I plan on taking this book when babysitting so my grandchildren can tell and act out the stories. The simple technology that turned the background into a pop-up book is fascinating! If you have young children, build the set for them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pop up book Gorgeous little set. Both scenes work wonderfully when built and it is so easy to swap them around. I love the unique minifigures and the finished build is attractive when both opened to display scene and closed. I built this with my 6 year old and being honest I think he could have built it by himself so I wouldn't put much credence in the 12 years plus age recommendation. I would love it if lego released some official expansion packs to build other classic fairytales like Goldilocks and Snow White. I am sure they would sell well to both purchasers of this and collectors of unique minifigures alike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best birthday present ever! I bought this the day it became available. My now 8 year old grandson and his dad built books like these from pieces, and when a kit finally came out, I got it. My grandson did it by himself the next day! He enjoys telling the story about how little jack, who he describes as being smaller than a bb, fights the big, bad giant. We video taped it. He's having a ball with it even after building it. More books!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enchanting and Expandable The assembly of this book and the two pop-up stories in the set is an especially engaging experience. A playfully designed instruction book showcases the fan designers and LEGO designers of the set, and gives a little history on pop-up books. Using hinges and swivels, the pop-up mechanic is expertly pulled off in brick form and is just as fascinating. The two story inserts are playful in design, highly interactive, and they spark new ideas. They demonstrate two uses of scale; Red Riding Hood has a pop-up cottage, and Jack & the Beanstalk has a pop-up mountain valley village in micro-scale, and a rising beanstalk in the background. The mechanical movement is impressive yet simple. These inserts give rise to more ideas for pop-up vignettes. I recently finished designing my own Star Wars scene insert and since the ideas are endless, so might be my own collection of custom story inserts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Release your creativity Very clever construction of the pop-up - especially the beanstalk. So many ways to build difference scenes - Christmas, landscapes (I am planning to rejig my lakeside 3in1 cottage into this book). Build not overly challenging, but not too easy. Some new small bricks I haven't come across before (brown designbrick 6172757 and also small roof-tile 6223631). Further an additional string was included in my set - great for creation of new design. One tiny thing which I would have like differently is the finish of the two large brown tiles - they have a more matt finish compared to the glossy shine of normal tiles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth action Aside from looking phenomenal, the feeling/action of opening the book is very smooth. I've had no issues opening or closing the book. Having two scenes/stories is great and also allows you to always have one, even if you use the pieces to make your own. Having the bean stock rise up when you open the book is terrific and really makes this popup book go from good to excellent. Fitting the minifigures in the book when closing can be a bit hard, and that is about the worst I can say. The only nit-picky thing is I'd prefer to have had tiles on top of the book (dark green) rather than plates (with studs). I cannot wait to make my own story scenes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great display accent Each Lego builder is a storyteller. That Lego book fits right into place in a Lego collection. I found an old wooden stand in my stuff, and I know exactly what to display on ;) I am currently working on a book shelf made of Lego, and this Lego Ideas Book is just perfect for the project. I hope Lego will add more books like this one. I might submit some book projects to Lego Ideas community :)
