Its well built and easy to use, and there is plenty of resistance for a hard workout. But I had two problems with the rower. The first is that I really had to crank the adjustment knobs down hard to prevent the adjustment from slipping during use. I have strong hands, and I struggled to get the adjustment knobs tight enough for them to not slip during use. The other problem is that due to the position of the foot pedals relative to the base frame, the foot pedals cannot pivot enough to allow me to stay flat-footed when I fully extend my legs. Its ends up feeling like I am standing on a steep hill, and its uncomfortable and awkward.
Date published: 2021-01-15

Rated 4 out of 5 by 65 year old from Good Workout I am not a fitness guru but after 3 weeks I do enjoy my rowing machine. This is for people who want the feel of a heavy wooden row boat, which is what I wanted. This will help build arms and upper torso. Also, I discovered that I could turn around on the seat and rather than pull on the arms, one can push too. Which is great as the upper back muscles are now activated. One minus: the rotary handles/locks to place and lock the resistance can slip. I had to over tighten mines with a pair of pliers. First the finish on the left base frame was marred. second after rowing about 20 minutes the seat starts to get bumpy like there is a flat spot somewhere. Also the seat is uncomfortable. On the good side. I needed something to work most of my muscles because I am undergoing KEMO therapy and it is eating up my strength and muscles. In the past I had used a rowing machine as part of my workout routine so I was familiar with the affects it has on your overall health. This rower is compact, but well-made and you get a good sweat going in a short amount of time. It does really well working your arms and abs (I haven’t even had to move the resistance up yet) and has a wider range of motion than traditional rowers. I only have a couple of criticisms: one being that the footrests rock back and forth when they should be designed to hold in place. Additionally, even though this is an older design, setup would have been a lot easier with allen screws or regular screws instead of bolts. Adjustable wrenches are kind of a pain lol. But other than that, I’m really enjoying this machine, and although I still prefer the magnetic rowers, this one’s a pretty good alternative for my small space.
Date published: 2020-08-13

Rated 5 out of 5 by Misty from Stamina 1215 Orbital Rower with Free Motion Arms It did take us awhile to put this together, but it was worth it. I am using it level, not inclined. My feet are staying in the foot rests without using the straps. It feels really smooth when you row. I'm really happy with it. If you just want to work one side of your back more than the other, you can just row one-handed. It smells clean, unlike one I used to have where you could smell the grease in the pistons when you rowed, no smell at all with this one. It takes very little space in the room, I can leave it in the middle of the floor and it isn't a problem. It is designed to have the seat move, but I made the seat stationary (like an old one I had in the early 90's) by slipping the seat off the end of the the track and putting those little cheap metal window security locks in front of and back of the seat. For what it's worth, I'm a 32 inseam and it seems like this would work for much longer legs. The big problem with the rower is the resistance produced by the two pistons located alongside the side rails is way too large. Too large for me to comfortably handle. I exercise at home here with a small variety of callisthenic movements and two 20 lb. barbells for strength training. I know what 20 lbs. feels like. The rower’s two pistons each must produce at least 40 lbs. of resistance. The rower’s advertisement is misleading by stating, “adjustable resistance”. The pistons are not adjustable, they always exert ~40 lbs. of resistance each. What is adjustable is where the pistons are attached to the rowing arms. When attached at the “lowest resistance” setting, the piston rod is half extended, so when I lift up/back on the full forward horizontal arms, the first 45 degrees of angular arms travel up/back is without any resistance whatsoever. Then, when the unconstrained arm travel has reached its limit, the normal resistance of ~40 lbs. kicks in…which is still too much. In physics a force applied over a distance is defined as “Work”. What’s adjustable with this machine is the amount of “work” demanded of the user by changing the location where the piston rod is attached to the rowing arm. The piston’s force is never adjusted and cannot be adjusted. I have lubricated the piston shaft without any change in resistance. Replacement shocks/pistons were shipped to me and they behave exactly like the original units. I cannot use this equipment and I do not recommend anyone else purchase one of these rowers.
Date published: 2019-02-14

Rated 5 out of 5 by WindSapien from All around fitness machine I have been looking for a rowing machine like this for a long time. Back in the late 80's or early 90's I had a similar rowing machine that was built by Voit . The Stamina 1215 is everything the Voit was and more. This one has Free Motion Arms which enables you to simulate the motion of actual rowing. I first started rowing to get into shape for windsurfing. I'm still rowing to get ready for the upcoming season today. I believe in what I call "Real World Exercising". Yoga, Cycling, Rowing, hiking etc. All of which get me ready and keep me ready for the outdoor activities I enjoy today. Windsurfing, Kayaking, Dirt Biking and more. I love this Rowing Machine and use it regularly. I'm retired today and spend about 2hrs. a day exercising. I recommend this one for sure. It is beautifully simplistic in design. No fans , water or magnets. Also less to go wrong
Date published: 2019-02-03

Rated 5 out of 5 by Haash from Best Machine! I’ve been using home rowers for a number of years now, and this one is the best! It has the highest resistance of any modern day rower that I’ve felt, and gives the most range of motion also. I don’t mean the motion arms, though that’s great. I mean the extension of the pull back. Just a magnificent machine if you’re looking to work.
Date published: 2018-12-19

Rated 3 out of 5 by gaia from TOO much resistance! I would like this machine a lot except that the resistance is so extreme, even at the very lowest setting that I can barely row it.
