<span itemprop="description">Our 2 year old grandson loved trains, so last year we bought this set to add to his small Duplo collection. As an educator and grandparent I'm impressed with the design of this train. It's easy to build a working track and even if it doesn't make a closed loop, the train still runs. It starts with a push and stops when he smacks it or pulls at it. It stays on the track reasonably well and is simple for him to rerail on his own. The connections on the cars are sturdy and simple and the action blocks are genius. They're just colored plastic. The magic is the reader in the bottom of the train. It runs across that color and does something. Watching my grandson fiddle with where to put a stop or a whistle block and how to get a train to back up or pause is so interesting. He's teaching himself the "if/then" sequence used by programmers and the logic used in every discipline. One down side to the set is the small amount of track included. We bought a bunch more as it gives him so many more play opportunities. It would have been nice if the original set came with a bit more. He's had this train for a year and a half now and it's still a favorite toy. While the phone app is cute and clever, he's much more interested in the train itself, building and changing it over and over. Love it.</span>

YES, you will need to change the batteries a ridiculous amount, (especially if you have the bridge pieces.) We love the interactive app option that allows my daughter to change the color of the train lights and blow the whistle whenever she pleases. She loves reversing the train. She also loves the characters and the squirrel included with the set. It was a perfect hit for Christmas!</span>

We got this for our almost 2 year old son for Christmas. (we obviously couldn't wait to try it out with him). He has a big bin of duplos that get a lot of play every day.
this train is super duper fun.
also: I'm so glad you DON'T NEED an app to use it.
like- there is absolutely no reason why my toddler needs to get into that crap already.
Anyway- My son wants us to build a new track for him every morning. He loves to place the action bricks (we do wish there were some more options for these). This has gotten a lot of use the last week. Def feel like it's a great value for the price.
We bought the expansion track sets for him too, though have had the self control to wait for Christmas on those. I'm assuming the bridge one is going to be a huge hit with Mr. 2. Can't wait!</span>

<span itemprop="description">My boys aged 3 and 6 both really enjoy this set. I got the additional tracks and bridge. It’s easy enough for my 3 year old to help build tracks and operate the train; and my oldest likes making more complex designs. When their friends are here there’s enough for 4 kids. Both girls and boys enjoy this set. This also goes with other Duplo bricks and some vehicles fit on the tracks too, it can even be raised up off the floor. If the kids have imagination there’s lots to do with it. I haven’t had issues with it, and it goes up and down the bridge easily until batteries run low.
*I would have liked a second option to get another/different train, the cargo train has been out of stock for awhile.
And also an option to buy spare and different coding/function tabs would be cool.
I would recomended this product.</span>

2, This train's underneath contains a camera-light liked colour recognised sensor to recognise the action blocks. Actually you can replace the action blocks with the same coloured material like paper, the train can still read it and implemented the relevant actions.
3, The tracks are compatible with other Duplo's manual push trains, as long as you don't fit with a switch-track from other Duplo track set like 10882. You can push along the manial train with these tracks, or even connect the manual coach/car to this batteried train and pulled by it.
4, You cannot change the speed or this train manually on this physical train blocks. But you can choose the speed of this train via the free Duplo train app available in App Store. The default speed of physical train is maximum. You can slow it down only via this app.
5, This app connects between the device and the train via Bluetooth.</span>

<span itemprop="description">This train was purchased for my then 2 year old to replace the older style Duplo train that we'd had for about 4ish years that was great but had stopped working. So we had heaps of tracks including the bridge.
We are not at all impressed with the new train. The batteries don't sit in properly so it doesn't work sometimes, its difficult for him to turn on (when the batteries do sit in properly), it has no power to tow one wagon up the bridge (the old one did 4 no worries) and just ends up with a frustrated child (his big brother 6 doesn't like the new train either). Even with the new features it's not worth the trouble, its hardly been used.</span>

<span itemprop="description">Acheté pour mon fils de 2 ans et demi pendant notre période de confinement, le set permet de faire un ovale et réclame 4 piles AAA pour activer ses fonctions push-and-go. Très simple d'utilisation, je recherchais la version du train Duplo que j'avais moi même eu dans les années 80. Bien qu'il n'y ait qu'un seul wagon avec la locomotive (et c'est bien son seul défaut), le train et est très joli et facile à lancer! Il supporte bien, pour le moment, les "commandes" d'un jeune enfant. Il n'a pas besoin des rails pour rouler : il fonctionne très bien sur le sol si votre enfant à du mal à bien le positionner sur les rails. Le gros plus, les autres wagons "standard" venant par exemple du premier train 1-2-3 sont compatibles avec les rails. L'application permet de diriger le train avec appareil compatible, et vous avez en plus des minis jeux.
Bref très content de mon achat, pensez juste à prévoir une surface au sol suffisante pour bien poser les rails à plat. Je recommande ce produit!</span>

I bought this train for my 2 years old son - so that he would stop begging me to take my Lego trains :-)
The train has plenty of strong points:
- easy to assemble
- easy to play with
- only switch on/off button
- Colors
- Sound
- App is not compulsory to run the train
It has some negative ones too, that culd be thought of:
- Can't be played with "by hand" (which is the way a young kid wants to play with) / only by powered engine
- It requires 3 AAA batteries which, if the train is running with the sound bricks and so on...don't last long at all - which is also bad when it goes into pollution
to conclude:
- solid toy
- fun to play with
- more adapted to older kids than 2 to 5 as indicated in the box
- should be made possible to play without engine too (i.e. adding a non engine base for the locomotive)
- consumes too much energy</span>

When he got the train out it no longer works (he had just used it a few days before) we tried two different sets of batteries from different brands and nothing. Now he has tracks he just got that he can’t play with. Makes for one unhappy 3 year old. I expected to get more than one year out of this train glad I decided not to add the bigger set.</span>

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the train to work due to issues getting the batteries lined up with the contacts and had to return the train to the store. Our second set has also been a dud: one of the batteries got very hot and started melting upon putting it together. Needless to say, we have not played with it yet, and I will returning this set for a second time. As an avid LEGO parent, I am very disappointed in the quality of this toy.</span>

I am writing this review to help out - as the title indicated, the steam train requires 4x AAA batteries. This needs to be easily found on the Lego website, but it is more difficult than expected to figure this out when I was getting batteries for my son without carrying the box.
Too many questions required when writing a review - explains why there are only so few.</span>

<span itemprop="description">Really like the product when it actually works. The batteries will not stay properly seated in the battery compartment. Train is not reliably powered because the battery lose contact frequently. Fun while it lasts but doesn't take long before the train stops again.</span>

<span itemprop="description">Purchased this for my 2.5 year-old son, and we love to play with it. I was looking for something that is versatile enough for me too, because we play a lot together, and this set, along with the bridge and the additional tracks, ticked all boxes on my list. I knew that if I get excited about a toy, my son will too, and the fun multiplies. The push and go motor is a brilliant thing, it works really well, although we don't use the mobile app. There's no need for that, you can play without it perfectly fine, and mobile devices are off limit for my son anyway. Not a cheap toy, but considering the many hours of play we'll put into it, it's a good investment. After a few days of play, one morning my son started building tracks on his own. He's yet to figure out how to build a loop, and this is the kind of challenge he needs right now. I'm very pleased with this toy, it moved all our other Duplo sets to a new level. I will probably buy the cargo set too, but that only for Christmas.</span>

<span itemprop="description">Bought this awesome steam train for our sons 4th birthday and he also got the bridge expansion pack. Unfortunately the train won't make it up the incline or down the decline. It has to be forced up and down. Makes for a bad play experience. Very disappointed.</span>

<span itemprop="description">Both of my daughters (2yo & 3yo) love playing with Legos (as their daddy does). Daddy also loves playing with trains. What a perfect combination!
The train is very easy to set up and play with. It is nice having the extra track so you can make more interesting track designs. Never used the app for the train because, why bother? The only thing that I wish was if there was a way to simply purchase extra train cars.</span>

<span itemprop="description">Santa gave my 18mo this for Christmas. It is simple to set up and use.
We bought it so that our older son could play together with youngest. Works perfectly for that.
Making the set is easy, i’d recommend getting extra sets so there’s more track.
App Set up is easy and straightforward and worked straight away on our Apple devices (IoS 12)
Youngest loves the push and go so no app needed. Our 4yo loves the app and the extra interactive games.
We had a lot of old style black track from years ago, it works perfectly with that. Ths only issue is the old style bridge doesn’t have enough grip. This was fixed with a thin wipe of PVA of the track surface! We now have a hump back bridge!</span>
