why it leaksShort story: remove the silicon straw. Replace with normal plastic bendy straw. The cups are awesome this way (unless your kid likes to turn them upside down). Longer story: I can explain why these leak. As the air trapped in the top of the cup warms, it expands. As it expands, it pushes the liquid down. The liquid has nowhere to go except up the straw in a FOUNTAIN of milk. Okay, more like a slow shield volcano lava eruption, but you get the point. A regular bendy straw breaks the seal and releases pressure - problem solved. (It also fixes the problem of the silicon straw requiring far too much suction.) After modification my son loves these cups and drinks from them exclusively.

It's like a volcano. This cup has a major leaking problem. I, like the other customer who reviewed this product, have had constant problems with the cup leaking even when sitting upright on the counter. Imagine my disappointment when we had to have a separate plate for her cup to sit on at Thanksgiving dinner! We didn't even overfill it...we kept pouring more and more of the juice out until only a quarter of the cup was filled, and the liquid still seeped out of the straw! Even sliding the top closed doesn't help...I still end up with a wet diaper bag. Terrible, which is surprising because we LOVED the Playtex sippy cups that match these.

My kiddos welcomed the new sippy cupsMy toddler and preschooler both equally enjoyed the Playtex sippy cups. They are well made cups, that I am confident will last in my home. Similar to other straw sippy cups, they are not 100% spill proof, but they do spill less than other straw sippy cups I have tried. As a mother of 4, I have tried a lot of different sippy cups. The cups are easy to clean, and are compact. Would probably be best if used while child is sitting such as snack or meal time since not completely spill proof. I only use water in my cups so I do not mind minimum leaks since leakage is not too bad, definitely best leak proof I have ever seen for a straw cup.

waste of money!!I purchased 4 of these cups for my 20 month old daughter. I chose the playtex brand thinking that it was a reliable product. I was very disappointed. The cups may be "spill" proof, but they are by no means leak proof. Every cup we have used has leaked it's contents. The cup can just be sitting on the table or chair and it leaks out the top of the straw, down the side of the cup and all over the furniture. This happens even when my daughter hasn't drank out of it yet. I am very disappointed in this product and upset that I wasted the money to buy 4 of them. I would not recommend these cups to anyone!

Great cups! These cups are great. They never leak. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I wash these all of the time in the top level of my dishwasher. You have to be careful and put it back together properly. Here's a tip for all of those who say it leaks... since it is very well constructed, please keep in mind you must make sure the top clicks (where the little arrow is) and don't fill it to the very top. Someone knew enough about pressure and the expansion of liquids, but didn't think to just not fill it up so much. My son was super picky about straw cups and I'm so happy with this that I'm buying the Lil' Gripper version for my 6 mo old.

Love it!Love it! My children took right too it! Very east to use! Spill proof and good quality material! I like the attractive child friendly look and that its BPA free! I don't need any other cup! This one has made the grade! My 1yr old loves the spout but my 2 year old loves the straw cup but that's not a problem bc the lids are compatible with the cup so no hunting and matching. I like that they are small but hold 9 oz and that makes it easy for my kids to grip and hold it! Most importantly it's dishwasher safe in the top rack so it makes my life easier!!! I would definitely recommend this cup to family and friends!!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

They do leak!I was excited to use these BPA free, straw cups, so that I could get away from the sippy cup, but still not have any spills. Unfortunately, these cups leak from the straw sometimes. It doesn't happen just when you fill it too full, either. Sometimes I will fix my toddler some milk and come back a minute later and milk has pooled around the straw and leaks down. I have to say it doesn't leak out of the lid, like they promise. Also, the straw doesn't reach the bottom of the cup, so you can't drink the last inch of liquid, requiring you to either re-use it or take off the lid. I was really disappointed in this product!

Toddler loves them, but I hate themMy one-year-old loves these (and any other) straw cups. However, these cups occassionally and unpredictably leak out the top of the straw, even when in an upright position. Without avail, I have tried everything to fix this problem (including calling Playtex), because my son really loves these cups. This problem is most apparent with any temperature change but has also frequently occurred within minutes of filling the cup (not long enough for a temperature change) and seems unrelated to any pressure buildup (it is not relieved by opening and reclosing the cup). Also, this does not fit in cup holders because it has a square bottom. In the end, I just use these for water, because they WILL leak. However, I have yet to find a straw cup that does not have major problems.
