Edu-Science - Astro Nova HD 1000 Young Astronomer's Reflector Telescope is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from See craters on the moon! I bought this a month ago for a family gift as everyone watches BBC Earth and scan the moon surface on Google. They all wanted a telescope (for over a year). Based on a great deal of research I concluded that this Astro Nova was slightly above the bare minimum required for moon viewing, I took the chance and bought it. We carefully kept the boxes in case we wanted to return it, but lo and behold, we see enough craters on the moon to keep everyone happy and excited. We are on a budget and cannot afford the name brands. I am happy to say this telescope is good for moon viewing and am very happy about its price. It is easy to set up and align, just point to a tall light post lamp 3 blocks away, use roof angles to lead to it and set the spotting cursor. Takes 10 minutes. We live in Calgary which has so much light pollution you cannot see the stars. We will take this to Banff soon and expect to see the space station with it as well as Mars. Other lenses are available on the usual internet auction sites, so I have ordered a stronger lens ($18) and filters ($10) to look at the sun. I want to see some sun flares.. Get this telescope, this model rocks! Love love love it! The tripod is aluminum and sturdy and the scope is very light. For the price, you cannot beat it, and I have been looking for a long time. With the inexpensive add ons you can make it even more powerful. I just assumed something sold at a toy store would not be good, I am sooooo wrong. I won't make that assumption again.
