Hello, Thank you for asking! The seat on this model can be attached further from the handle bar for parent control mode, and a bit closer to it for an independent ride. When your child is ready to start pedaling, use a Phillips screwdriver to disassemble and reassemble the screw you'll find connecting the seat. Best Regards, the smarTrike team
