Octopath does have some reading through the stories but it does it in a very light reading kind of way. Turn-based battles takes a different path as the break system is system is very cool. You can break an enemy's turn if you strategize your attacks properly. Each enemy have their set of weaknesses your group can break to aid in stopping their attack in their turn. Boy, was I wrong. This game has stolen my heart in every way possible. The music is outstanding, the characters are a joy, the RPG elements are tried and true. It's like being vacuumed in a time hole and playing Final Fantasy VI for the first time again. But the graphics are so much nicer! I would argue they're better than many AAA titles today. My personal runner up for GOTY; after God of War. Buy this game. Variety of stories for each character is nice to have, and each character adds a unique aspect to the game. A little more connection between characters and their stories would have been appreciated though as there really isn't any..
