It is universal because it can measure temperature both contact and non-contact. The speed is very high, it measures the temperature almost instantly. It can display the temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit (whichever is convenient for you). When you use it, it shines a yellow light so you know where it is taking the temperature reading from. It also has instructions on the thermometer so you don't have to worry about misplacing them. It has a cap so that it can be safely stored and protected when it's not in use. One of my favorite functions are the fact it lights up green if the temperature reading is normal or red if it is an error or fever - which makes it super easy to use especially if you aren't feeling well or if you are waking up in the middle if the night to take care of someone else. My other favorite function is that the sound can be turned on or off depending on what you need. The instructions come with a picture of how far you should be from your child&rsquo;s forehead. I love that it comes with batteries.
